Momentum Always Makes A Difference

First I want to take a moment to thank everyone who responded to my survey on Tuesday and Wednesday — really helpful input from all of you, so thank you again!  Thanks to the Random.org True Random Number service, I’ve selected the winner who will receive a complimentary copy of the final product once it launches this fall.  I’d announce his or her name, but I can’t (at least not yet) because I only have the email address!  However, I contacted the winner this morning via email so check your email inbox if you completed the survey!

UPDATE (9/25/10 1:45 PM EST): I heard from the winner and it turns out that our winner is Steph from Massachusetts, also known as the “Stealth Real Estate Investor”!  She works in the financial services industry and is looking to escape her job by next July.  Steph is also a fellow blogger and you can follow her journey at The Stealth RE Investor BlogCongratulations Steph and I wish you the best!

Can you believe that September is over next week?  It seems like it was just last week when I was saying “Hey, its September already?” Seriously this year is flying by.  October 1 is a special day because it marks the first day of the last quarter of the year.  We all have 3 months to put the pedal to the metal and work towards reaching those goals we set for ourselves in 2010.

Now is a perfect time to put some 90-day goals down and build momentum that takes us into 2011 with an awesome start — in all areas of our lives!

My husband & I are building momentum in the area of securing private money lending.  Earlier this week we confirmed $120K from one lender and awaiting confirmation on specific amount from another one!  When I tell you that storytelling is powerful….I mean storytelling is powerful.  I can’t emphasize that enough — listen and share, listen and share, rinse and repeat.  Powerful.

I’m also personally building momentum in the area of health and fitness.  Drinking more water, working out 3 to 4 times per week, and its making a difference already and has only been a month of consistency at this point, but I’m not stopping!

And finally, I’m building momentum in the area of speaking positively on a daily basis — and multiple times during the day. Some call them affirmations, I call them positive confessions.  I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but just haven’t pulled it off. Now I’m writing them down and putting the piece of paper in my pocket and pulling it out several times a day.  At some point, I’ll have these words so etched in my memory that I’ll have several positive confessions that I can say at the drop of a dime whenever needed.

So what are you going to build momentum towards in these final months?

Positive confessions – LUV it!! Must be the momentum that’s causing the time to go so quickly :-) Rock on!

Ah, maybe THAT’S it, Bill! Sometimes I want to slow down time…and other times I want to speed ahead! :-) Have a great weekend and thanks for everything (you know what I’m talkin’ about)!

Hats off to you for forming these great habits of being healthier and speaking what you want. Lots of people are familiar with the first. The second can at times make you feel ‘cheesy’ or your mind can doubt what you are trying to put in it. But the mind is a powerful tool and stores (and has stored) everything that we’ve ever put in it. Just plain amazing. Keep it up Shae and thanks for encouraging me as well!

@Brooks, thanks so much and you’re absolutely right. We have to take control of our own thoughts and yes even though it may seem cheesy to talk to yourself, its so powerful. I’ll just have to be cheesy! LOL!

@Steph, its truly my pleasure. Can’t wait to get your feedback on it.

Ok Steph won something from Scott too didn’t she? Steph what the heck is going on with all of this winning? I think it’s a sign girl! Congrats!

And I gotta tell you Shae that this storytelling stuff is doing really well for me too. My next post will tell about all of the details but I found someone else who wants to rollover to a self-directed IRA and do ATM deals with us (hopefully, eventually real estate deals too.)

Storytelling works….oh and the funny thing was I was storytelling and didn’t even know it…I mean I knew I was telling a story that was true, but I didn’t expect the guy to say “hold on, back up, they used their IRA? Tell me more about that.” :-)

Thanks, Carey. Weird, huh? First Scott’s blog, now this! I guess I’m hitting a lucky streak…which I really am thankful for! :-)

Carey, that’s awesome! I think having people get a taste of the private lending life by financing ATM machines is awesome. They are VERY likely to include real estate once they start getting payments from you and realizing how very cool the whole thing is.

I thought it was SO hilarious to get an email back from Steph. I had no idea it was her…she’s on a roll!

I have been enjoying positive thinking as well. Mine is slightly different. Anytime I gripe about something, I stop myself and think “How can I solve this problem?” If its beyond my scope of goals, I leave it be as much as I can.

Its amazing how much life can change by changing those very small habits. The steersman may only turn the wheel 1/4 turn, but it moves an unseen rudder that eventually takes the ship in a whole new direction to a whole new destination.

Jason, I think that’s an awesome technique for staying positive and productive. Thanks for sharing it!

Awesome to hear your success with private lenders, Shae! Really cool. And, storytelling is definitely very powerful. When I think of it, most of the great books all tell stories. The “how-to” stuff is ok, but it’s really the stories that get folks interested! :)

Great to hear about the momentum you’re building, Shae! I think it’s great speaking positively is one of the areas you’re focusing on, you’ve always been a really positive and cheery person! :)

With fall and winter not very far away, it’s definitely a good time to get the momentum going especially in the world of REI! From past experience, a lot of opportunities start coming up during the last quarter of the year.

Thanks for encouraging us all!! :)

Congrats Steph!! I think the REI bloggers are conspiring to make you have a massively successful year. :)

Shae – great post!! I am happy to hear about your health momentum. There is no point at all at pushing to be rich and sick. Health is critical.

@Rachel, I agree. I like the practical nature of “how to” books BUT I enjoy it much more when there’s a good story with it.

I’m generally a very positive person and thank God I bounce back pretty quickly from adversity, but sometimes things will slip out of my mouth that aren’t very useful. Like saying things like “well HOPEFULLY we’ll be able to…..” or “I don’t really think that we can….” or “I’ll try but what if….”

So I’m really working to check myself on stuff like this.

I’m totally with you about the momentum in the last 90 days. Once our lender’s funds are ready in the IRA (she’s doing a rollover from 401K) we’ll be grabbing a couple homes from the MLS or from a wholesaler here locally)….or who knows…one of the stalemate houses can come through!

@Julie, thanks! Health is definitely critical and I was at my healthiest (since adulthood) before I got pregnant with Nia, so I’m working to get back to that!

    Shae,

I hear ya on watching what is said. It sneaks up on us if were not careful. It took me awhile to get into the positive affirmations. I felt conceited when talking that way. Now I feel more confident speaking that way. All in perspective.

I am loving your progress btw. It helps motivate the rest of us.

    Hi Shae,

We just got the first deal last week and looking for buyers and hope will close it soon. We keep momentum and have quite a lot on the pipeline. I have a question for you as you are seasoning investor. How long it takes to build a firmly business as a real estate investor, I mean in general from your experience or people you know. I plan to leave my job in next 3 months, but it seems that it can happen anytime soon. The other question, what host that you have your website with? How is the services?

    Thanks so much,

    NP

    Hi NP,

Congrats on snagging that first deal! You ask a really good question about growing a business. The answer isn’t simple because it depends on what your goals are with your real estate business.

I know people who just got started this year and are killin’ it with their wholesale business (e.g. Esi over at flippingmom.com)….but know others (including myself) who took several months to get going.

By the way, in the ebook I’m launching at the end of this month, I’m going to show people how to go from where they are now to financially free in as little time as possible via a detailed financial freedom and rat race escape plan. Keep an eye out for that!

Oh, and to answer your question about hosting. I use HostGator and I love them.

    Have a great weekend!
