Hope everyone had a great weekend! Yesterday I received my copy of Brian Tracy’s Million Dollar Habits in the mail for my December reading…and that gave me the idea of doing a post that lists all of the books I’ve read in 2009…well not an all-inclusive list, only the ones that I’d recommend!
Here’s a snapshot of my “best books” bookshelf…includes most of the books mentioned below plus others I read before 2009 but still want to keep close to my desk because I re-read them in part or in entirety! I typically buy my personal development books because I like to highlight and make notes in them!

So if you love a good book recommendation, you should love this list…here goes!
Crush It: Why Now is the Time to Cash in on your Passion (Gary Vaynerchuk)
Endless Referrals (Bob Burg)
Flip This REO! (Stephani Davis)
Harmonic Wealth: The Secret of Attracting the Life You Want (James Arthur Ray)
Maximum Achievement (Brian Tracy)
No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs (Dan S. Kennedy)
ONO: Options Not Obligations – Enrich Your Personal Life by Rethinking Your Financial Life (Marc Warnke)
The Bible (I read the New Testament this year, New Living Translation)
The Go-Giver: A Little Story about a Powerful Business Idea (Bob Burg, John David Mann)
The Power of Focus (Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Les Hewitt)
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind (T. Harv Eker)
Who’s Got Your Back (Keith Ferrazzi)
For those wondering where all the real estate investing books are….well, I don’t read too many real estate books, but I do invest in the occasional e-book and learn quite a bit from mentors and RE online communities. I mostly focus my reading on books that help me develop as a person — all the other stuff is pretty easy to figure out in comparison! However, if you really want to know a good author for real estate investing focused books, I’d recommend anything published in the last 5 years from Peter Conti & Dave Finkel. I read a few of their books when we were getting started in 2008 and they were definitely full of good info!
If you have any questions or other recommendations to make, please comment! Next year I’ll be reading 2 books a month minimum (my goal for most of this year was 1 book per month and towards the end of the year I upped it to 2 per month). Some of these may be repeat reads from years prior but I am a firm believer in repetition.
“So, please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install, a lovely bookcase on the wall.” – Roald Dahl (Author, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
Happy reading!
P.S. If you haven’t heard the news already, Jim Rohn passed away yesterday. Pretty much every success or goal expert gives credit to Jim Rohn as a major influence in their life. He was an awesome man and his teachings are a blessing to so many people, including myself. You can check out the tribute here. Go read his books! I’ll be adding more of them to my 2010 reading list!

Great list Shae and thanks for sharing!
I’ve got a looong way to go and a lot of reading to do but thanks to you and Steph, I’ll be getting back into reading more. I should be getting my copy of Million Dollar Habits sometime this week and look forward to reading it and comparing notes with you guys.
Keep up the good work but stop rubbing it in that you are in “Sunny” Florida! LOL

Your book collection is weak sauce LOL!!! Time to step up your book game (j/k, no, but really, ok, j/k again)
I clear books on a weekly basis which is why my wifey probably calls me a book nerd.
Shae, I don’t know if you read any of my book reviews on BP, most recently I did some on Human Behavior and Deception Detection. I truly believe they are of assistance in Real Estate even though they weren’t meant to be.

Mr. Johnson, how are you going to come on my blog and diss my book collection (well, the “best books” shelf of it anyway) like that? That’s messed up! LOL!
Seriously though, averaging a book a week is pretty awesome, Nick! Once I’m not holding down a 9-to-5 job anymore, I’m definitely going to “step up my book game” as you’d say….in the meantime I’m very proud of my 2 books a month
I remember reading your Crush It and Total Money Makeover book reviews before — I’ll have to go read some of your others though and I’m sure I’ll find some other great books to add to the collection or pick up from the library.

Shae,
I’m ALWAYS impressed with your discipline… you will go far because you are consistent and you set goals (and meet them!) I’m going to try and draw from your influence in 2010 and start reading at least one book every month (I know I’m not up to the challenge of two…) Keep up the great work!

Hey Chris! Thanks for your comments, they really mean a lot to me. I’m really working to extend this discipline to other areas as well (e.g. getting this extra baby weight off of me by the time the baby turns 2!) It’s a bit of a balancing act, for sure! Looking forward to catching up this week!

Hi Shae,
I am TOTALLY honored to have two of my books included in your list and in your bookshelf. Wow!
Please know the gratitude and appreciation I have for you. Not JUST because you’ve included my books but – more importantly – for the person you are.
Thank you!!

After joining Steph’s book of the month club, I’ve decided that a goal for 2010 would be to follow through and read 1 book a month. That would be about 11 more books then I normally read in a given year. Million Dollar Habits is on the way and I’m looking forward to reading it and then discussing it with you all.
You know, nothing is more true then the saying….”If you want something in life, hang out with like minded people and you will achieve it”. We’ll ok, I’m not sure if that is an exact quote from someone, but it’s true!

Love the book list Shae! I am a voracious reader myself, and try to finish at least a book a week. Sometimes hard to meet that goal though. I’m really looking forward to Steph’s book club and discussing books with all of you.
Just as a side note, I have a copy of Bob Burg’s Endless Referrals as well – in the First Edition!! Still just as relevant today as when first published (and we won’t even talk about how long ago that was )

Hey Scott, that’s awesome! Remember you can do the audio versions too if that’s better for you!
Bill, I’m looking forward to it as well! So you have Bob’s first edition, eh? The one I have is the 3rd edition and it was excellent!

Shae,
I was thinking about doing the audio version, but I don’t concentrate enough and get too distracted. That is why I bought the book instead of the audio for the BOTM club.

I hear ya, Scott. I like the printed versions best because I like to write in them, highlight etc. I’ve used audios for my long car trips which are rare. I started the Tracy book last night so let’s get this party started

That’s quite an impressive list there, Shae, (thanks for adding my eBook, btw)
Crush it by Gary Vaynerchuk is next up on my list. I need to get through the other 3 that I started first, though. My new rule is only one book at a time…

Steph, I just received ‘Trust Agents’ by @chrisbrogran today. I’ll have that finished up by this weekend and I’ll give you a review of it
Then after that, I’m reading ‘The Good Men Project’ which comes with a DVD so maybe I’ll cheat and only watch the DVD

I am currently reading Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy at Bob Norton’s recommendation. Pretty good! It’s a quick read small book.
I like to get both the audio and the printed for travel and for notes. My books are full of postit flags , highlighters and notes

I am glad I ran into your blog. I have gotten out of the habit of reading books. I went into my closet tonight and dust off ‘The Magic of thinking big’ by David Schwartz I am going to start reading more.
