Tenant woes on the option house

[ 5 ] October 14, 2009 | Shae

Frankly, I’m irritated.

Here’s the deal.  The house we have an option contract on….let’s just call it “The Option House” ….we have 7 people eager to see it. FANTASTIC! Big problem though…the tenant (sister of the owner who is paying practically nothing each month) is blocking things right now.  She’s very concerned about whether or not she’s going to be kicked out or not so she’s not cooperating with us to have potential buyers look at the house.

The owner (who is in Georgia) swears to us that she wants to sell regardless of whether her sister gets to stay or not, but said it “would be nice” if she could stay. But none of that matters if we can’t show the daggone house.

My husband basically left a message for the owner to tell her that she needs to talk to her sister and they need to figure out what they are doing because they are screwing up our relationships with buyers by making this so complicated.  We’re not really concerned about screwing up relationships with the buyers – we’ve explained the situation to them and they are on standby to see the property….but nevertheless…

GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE!

On a completely separate and much more positive note….I finished another excellent book by Bob Burg (co-author of “The Go-Giver“) over the weekend called Endless Referrals.  Good stuff and highly recommended reading.  I had the pleasure of speaking with Bob on the phone this week and he’s just a genuinely awesome person.  You can connect with him on Twitter or Facebook – he’s very active on social networks!

Ok, that’s all for now.  Hope to have better news tomorrow.

Unfortunatly it is very difficult to deal with anyone who is a parasite. (Takes and does not give back) They will fight tooth and nail to keep that gravy train becuase if they don’t they may have to actually *gasp* work for what they have. It won’t be an easy go unless the sister kicks her out. Good luck. Wish I could be optimistic for you here, but people like that just drain the soul.

Jason, its definitely a difficult situation. And the owner simply can’t afford to keep making this high mortgage payment with little help from her sister…so anyway….we’ll keep plugging away and once they get it together we’ll be ready. We’re still getting more phone calls to see it. It’s a real pain.

  3. I just want to say you are a networking machine Shae! As a quiet and relatively shy person myself, I’m always amazed at how some people make it look so easy. Plus you make it look effortless! I find myself not having the energy to communicate sometimes. I will say my blog has helped that immensely though :)

Also can you subscribe to comments on your posts? I sometimes look forward to a response from you on a comment but inevitably forget about it.

Scott, I’m going to get YOU on the phone one of these days sir :-)
As far as comment subscription, yep there’s a feed for comments (see top right), but to your point I should add a plug-in that allows people to click on a box to get follow up comments.

Oh, and another point Scotty…even the most quiet and relatively shy person can effectively build relationships both online and offline. There are books like Endless Referrals that give great ideas on how to engage people when meeting for the first time. For a really shy person, in the beginning it may feel contrived, but it will begin to feel natural after a lot of conversations :-)
